Training cum Workshop on World Trade Organization and Nepal

3-5 December 2007, Kathmandu

SAWTEE organised a three-day Training cum Workshop 'World Trade Organization and Nepal' during 3-5 December 2007 in Kathmandu. Twenty one local development workers, including journalists from three districts of the western development region (Palpa, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu) and one district of the central development region (Kathmandu) participated in the programme. The programme was organised as part of Grassroots and Policy Linkage on WTO Issues (GRAPOL) Project.

The programme was divided into five sessions: WTO and Nepal's Membership; WTO and Agricultural Trade Liberalisation; Mode 4 Liberalisation and Migration; Indo-Nepal Trade Treaty; and Intellectual Property Rights, Biodiversity and Farmers' Rights. In each of these sessions, work group discussions were held to create a link between grassroots and policy level issues. During the programme, participants also identified different activities that need to be undertaken at the local level. In the coming months, SAWTEE and GRAPOL partners will implement some of these activities as part of the project.
