Competition Advocacy and Education Project (CAEP)


Background

This project envisages creating a conducive environment for the formulation and enactment of competition friendly policies and targets to build the capacity of stakeholders in order to act as a watchdog to prevent anti-competitive practices in Nepal. The project seeks to address competition related issues to create a culture of competition amongst stakeholders including government authorities. Research and Documentation, Sensitisation, Capacity Building, Policy and Media Advocacy are the major focus areas of the CAEP project.

CAEP started in February 2004 and will be completed in January 2007.

Partners

The project is supported by the Department for International Development (DFID) in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Mission

Building competition culture among stakeholders and strengthening the competitiveness of domestic enterprises in the international market through enhanced efficiency and innovation.

Objectives
  • Creating an atmosphere for the formulation and enactment of competition friendly policies and legislation.
  • Ensuring participation of stakeholders in the process of formulation of competition friendly policies, legislation and following up their implementation and enforcement.
  • Building the capacity of stakeholders to act as a watchdog to prevent anti-competitive practices.
Activities

Activities include publications of newsletters, briefing papers, research books and organisation of national forums/events on competition issues.
