Informal Cross-Border Agricultural Trade

SAWTEE implemented the project from May 2023 to April 2024. The project was supported by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). In Nepal, informal cross-border trade was an important part of total trade and played a critical role in poverty alleviation, food security, and households’ livelihoods when managed well. This study aimed at unpacking the scale and characteristics of informal agricultural trade of Nepal to contribute to an informed policy discourse.
