Electricity could emerge as key export for Nepal—in the long run

NEA have started exporting surplus energy to India. Joint Vision Statement on Power Sector Cooperation agreed between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi paved the way for Nepal to seek wider market access to India’s vast energy market. 

Speaking to the Kathmandu Post, Dr. Posh Raj Pandey, Chairperson at SAWTEE said, “Immediately, there is no potential of reducing the massive trade deficit by exporting electricity, but it can happen in the long run.”
