SAWTEE with the support of The Asia Foundation organized a webinar on “COP27: Issues, agenda and expectations” on Thursday, 20 October 2022. The discussions were made on issues such as adaptation, climate finance, loss and damage, and trade policy-climate policy nexus, from the perspective of South Asia, and the way forward. The webinar was the second among a series of civil society forums to discuss and raise awareness on issues of regional interest among civil society organizations working on diverse areas. The online session saw the participation of researchers, climate activists and academicians and representatives from civil society organizations, think tanks and private sectors.
Background Note
The 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) is scheduled to be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on 6- 18 November 2022. South Asia is highly vulnerable to the shocks of climate change. This year’s devastating floods in Pakistan, aggravated by climate change, have been a grim reminder of the urgency to resolve outstanding issues of adaptation, climate finance, and loss and damage, besides increased ambition on mitigation. South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) in collaboration with The Asia Foundation (TAF) has initiated a Civil Society Forum to discuss and raise awareness on issues of regional interest among civil society organizations working on diverse areas. As part of this initiative, SAWTEE is organizing a webinar on “COP27: Issues, agenda and expectations”. The issues for discussion include adaptation, climate finance, loss and damage, and trade-industrial-climate-policy nexus, from the perspective of South Asia, and the way forward.
